Well. It’s been a hell of year. I suppose it has been for everyone, but this personally has been the most trying time I have experienced. As a result it has forced me into strange new internal worlds and works.
If you follow my work, you will know last fall I closed my shoppe without much warning, and have been away almost entirely since then. I had a sudden illness throughout last summer, and when I went into the hospital finally last September I finally received a diagnosis of end stage kidney failure, and had to instantly come to terms with constant medical care and constant sickness and fatigue. Unfortunately I live in the United States, so in the ensuing months, I have lost my livelihood, my house, my fiancé, and become homeless thanks to medical costs and a lack of helpful social programs in this country. So I have adjusted as well as possible to this, as you can imagine dealing with constant medical treatment and surgeries and trying to live in a car has been beyond challenging. The spiritual crises and realizations and struggles that have come with this have been crushing and elevating and enlightening, but all of which have come at a great cost to both my mental and physical being. It took me months to even see a space for continued spiritual work in my life when I was in the worst of it, losing the people who I thought would be there to support me the most. But into that void has come blessings from friends and my chosen family, and a whole new perspective on life, death, and spiritual practice that I hope to document here as I face the dark path into the other world that I will be walking over these next few years.
